Mother of 2 commits suicide after MMM Nigeria swallowed N.4million “investment”

A 34-year-old mother of two reportedly took her own life after monies she invested in popular Ponzi scheme MMM Nigeria failed to “return”.

Gloria Samson; according to her husband David, and neighbours; was a lively person but became depressed after MMM froze in December.

The woman was so lively she recovered from losing one of her triplets to the cold hands of death to care for the remaining two both now aged five.

But on December 28, Gloria left her home in Vandeikiya Street, Makurdi, and never returned. He body was recovered from River Benue on January 2. Her husband, who kept hoping his wife would be found, didn’t know of her tragic passing until January 17 when a market woman said she heard police recovered a body two weeks before.

“As soon as the woman came to my house that morning and informed me of the police finding, I became perplexed and hurriedly went to toilet before we departed to ‘A Division’ at Wadata Area, where the picture of the drowned woman whom I later identified as my wife was given to me,” Samson told Nigerian Tribune.

“In fact, I did not know what became of me; I just began to shiver,” he said.

The widower made comments suggesting his wife may have committed suicide because MMM crashed. But he added that Gloria may have suffered spiritual attack.

“My wife was into petty trading, and she had been collecting this soft loans to boost her business,” he said.

“Anytime she collected, she paid back and in most cases I was her guarantor. You know women at times keep secrets. Towards November and December, 2016, I discovered she took a loan from four places – over N400,000 – but I don’t know what she actually did with the money because this time there was nothing in the shop to suggest that she invested the money into her business and truly she took loans.”

Gloria’s trader friends said they noticed her bright countenance turned dark in December.

“She was so moody, unlike her usual way of life,” one of them said.

“I asked what the problem was, and she told me that she had run into deep problem. She added that she collected a sum of money and put it into ‘that business that brings in quick money’ but learnt that the thing had collapsed.

“She even threatened to run away, but I encouraged her to pray as God would intervene and she left. I did not hear from her until the news came that she drowned in River Benue and her body was recovered here around Wadata.”

Neighbours said representatives from a local bank visited Gloria’s home to inform her she had defaulted on a loan only to be informed she was dead.

Benue State police spokesperson Moses Yamu confirmed the sad occurrence.
