“All I could think of was family” – woman says after surviving Aero Contractors flight fire
Passengers sang worship songs and sent frantic prayer requests to the heavens as a Lagos bound aircraft caught fire 20 minutes after take-off.
One of the blades of the airplane reportedly burst into flames after Port Harcourt take-off. It sent smoke into the cabbing, choking passengers.
“Jesus you are not dead, you are alive,” a woman repeatedly screamed while the 35-minute “near-death” experience lasted. Another lifted his left hand and sang worship songs to God.
Other passengers reached for their phones to record the panic-filled moments on Tuesday.
“All I could think of was family,” another woman who survived the ordeal tweeted.
“Like we just took off and I’m about to die? Nah! God can’t let this happen. The smoke was so thick we couldn’t see. the blades were sparking.
“I’m still shaky, this experience is one I can’t forget easily.

“Pilot said we should calm down but something was burning, smelling and the smoke got thicker, the alarms went off but he said to calm down?
“He said anyone that can’t breathe should use a wet handkerchief. Ha! All I could think about was my family. Hell no I’m not dying today.
“I prayed and quoted all the bible verses I could think of. I was shaking, the plane was moving up and down, women were screaming at the back.
“Everyone is shouting sue, sue but I’m just grateful to be alive and on ground.
“Funny thing is no apology or explanation was given to anyone,” she said.
