How fasting motorists can avoid accidents during Ramadan
Mr Philip Ozonnandi, the FRSC Unit Commander in Ore, gave these advice while speaking with journalists on Thursday in Ondo State.
Ozonnandi recommended the following safety measures for motorists during Ramadan:
Fatigue:
The FRSC has advised motorists to always take few minutes rest as a safety measure, as it would relieve them of the usual fatigue associated with fasting.
“I will advise motorists especially our Muslim brothers to pull over and take some rest in a safe place on the highway when fatigue sets in as a result of the Ramadan fast,” Ozonnandi said.
“I think this is one of the safety tips against road crashes, fatigue is likely to cause sleep while on the wheels”.
Obey Traffic Rules
FRSC has appealed to motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations, adding that using the Ramadan period as an excuse to flout traffic rules would not be tolerated by FRSC officials.
“Drivers should also obey all traffic rules on the highway as using Ramadan period to violate traffic rules will not stop the FRSC officials from performing their lawful duties,” Ozonnandi said.
Pray:
The FRSC boss also urged all Muslim faithfuls to use the Ramadan period to pray for accident free period and the peace of Nigeria.
Focus:
Motorists are advised to focus and concentrate on the road more while driving during Ramadan.
The resultant lack of concentration or day dreaming can lead to a lower reaction time in motorists, causing them to miss road signs or exits, change driving speed without realizing display and/or increased impatience with other drivers.
