Ghanaians protest increase in prices of electricity, water and petrol
January 20, 2016
Ghana’s Trade Union Congress is spearheading protests over the hike in prices of electricity, water, and petrol.
The demonstrators carried placards some of which read “poverty is the worst form of violence” and “spare us our future, politicians!”
Water prices were increased by 67% in December while electricity prices were increased by 59%, BBC reports.
Protesters are also complaining about the introduction of new taxes and an increase in existing ones.
