Former Lagos Police Commissioner blames corruption in government for Benue flood
Former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Abubakar Tsav, has blamed corruption, ineptitude and deceit by the Benue State government for the Makurdi flooding.
Tsav accused former and present governments of awarding construction works that were fully paid for without any work done.
Residents also claimed they were aware a contractor was previously given about N1 billion to provide drainage channels but he absconded.
The flood has left more than 100,000 displaced and submerged about 2,500 houses.
It has also left the people in danger of cholera infection as a result of their source of water being contaminated with impurities, unless necessary action is taken.
And Tsav linked linked the drainage blockage to government’s inaction, noting that if the right thing had been done, the drainage would be clear and eased the flow of water during this trying period in Makurdi.
