Comedians arrested for making jokes about overzealous Lord Chosen members, general overseer

Members of “’Naijas Craziest” comedy crew were, on Tuesday, arrested for making jokes about Lords Chosen Church (LCC).

The comedians are notorious for cracking “expensive” jokes on controversial figures. LCC leader Lazarus Mouka and his overzealous church members make great fuel for crazy jokes.

It, however, appears “’Naijas Craziest” went too far, or some LCC members couldn’t stomach critical humour.

The comedians were seen in a video clip criticizing the church members for rolling in the mud on a public road, preaching their gospel with a supposed “Spiritual Bullet Proof” apron Mouka allegedly sold to them for N1,000 per piece.

There’s an estimated 200,000 LCC members in Nigeria alone. The comedians stated these launching comic attacks on Mouka for ripping his members off while he “chilled in his air-conditioned office”.

The video, which like other videos by the crew began with a “this is only a joke” disclaimer, was uploaded on YouTube on December 5, 2016, and has been watched over 20,000 times.

Here’s the video…

Police in Lagos confirmed arresting the comedians on Tuesday January 10, 2017.

They were taken to Panti Police Station in Yaba area of Lagos.

One of the comedians John Joshua aka MC Toothpick was arrested on the set of African Magic TV series, Hustle, a source said.

“He was lied to about a meetup for a TV show and Police men wearing plain clothes picked him up on arrival.

“They told him that the deputy commissioner of police wanted to have a chat with him. When he got to State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, they played the video in question for him, and said it was a crime, that he and his crew broke the law. (The law broken was however not mentioned).

“John Joshua was ordered to write a statement under duress and informed that he won’t be released until he provided details of the whereabouts of the other comedians in the video. He was also not allowed to call for help but only pick incoming calls.

“With no other option available, he called his colleagues, Mayor Okiemute Uguseba aka Laff Mayor, Kingsley Chibisi aka MC tutalk and Kelvin aka De Governor. He lied to them that he had a show in Yaba and needed to meet a client.

“While Laff Mayor could not make it, Kingsley and Kelvin went, where arrested and their phones seized.

“They were released after paying a total of 8,000 naira and told to report to the station today, Wednesday 11th of January 2017,” the source said.
