“Fleeing yahoo boy wasn’t shot by SARS” – Witness
The allegation that SARS operatives shot a man simply identified as ‘Aboy Life of Ginjah’ has been rebuffed by a witness.
Reports had filtered through on Saturday that the operatives shot the suspected “Yahoo boy” for refusing to unlock his phone for them to inspect.
A witness has, however, said Aboy died after he tripped on a sharp rod in his attempt to evade the operatives who had stormed Oyins Holiday Inn, a hotel in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
The witness, who claimed to be with the deceased at the time of the incident, said the SARS operatives were only at the hotel to see its owner.
“ABOY tried to escape when he & others at the pool bar heard SARS were at Oyins Hotel, he fell on a sharp rod that pierced his stomach & hand,” the witness claimed in a series of tweets on Monday.”
“He was immediately rush to a nearby hospital, Subol Hospital & was rejected. His friends then rushed him to General Hospital where he died.
“SARS didn’t shoot ABOY. The SARS operatives didn’t even come to raid the hotel, they came to see the owner of the hotel.
“I was still seating with ABOY the whole day, didn’t know his death was nearby.
“The whole event is just unfortunate,” he added.
The incident led to mild riot as the deceased’s friends reportedly stormed the hotel to confront the hotel management.
Police from Ikotun and Idimu division were reportedly able to bring the situation under control.
