Fallout from Ambode’s press conference: Jide Sanwo-Olu group threatens to retaliate

As current Lagos State governor Akinwunmi Ambode scrambles to rally his loyalists ahead of tomorrow’s primary elections, a group in support of this contender Babajide Sanwo-Olu has threatened to retaliate against him for comments he made during a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

Governor Ambode, whose candidacy is under a cloud of doubt owing to Sanwo-Olu endorsement by a large faction of their party APC- as well as the party leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had alleged at the press conference that the aspirant was not fit to lead. He referenced a case of his arrest in the US “for spending fake dollars” and revealed that Sanwo-Olu had undergone rehabilitation for an unnamed condition at Gbagada General Hospital.

The support group succinctly named “Jide Sanwo-Olu Support Group” reacted on Twitter, saying it was unfair of Governor Ambode to mention their aspirant’s health history.

“Governor Ambode, it’s unfortunate to see you attack your fellow contender from the same party in this manner, especially health wise. In our campaigns, we never attacked you. But you have called for it. THE WORLD WILL KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT YOU.‏”

The state chapter of the APC was billed to hold its Lagos primaries today September 30 but was postponed till tomorrow October1. It is expected that Tinubu, who hitherto was Ambode’s mentor, will throw his weight behind Sanwo-Olu.
