Court arraigns driver who killed four Technical College students at Abeokuta mosque

The driver behind the wheels of the vehicle that crushed some young students to death at a mosque in Abeokuta, Ogun State has been arraigned in court.

Some students of Ogun State Technical College in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, had gathered at the Rahamot Lahill Quareeb mosque Friday night to observe a Tahjjud, a late night prayer observed by Muslims, when a car rammed into them.

At least five persons – all females – were killed, while the four occupants of the car were said to have escaped with only injuries.

The identities of the victims, aged between 13 and 20, were given as: Rokibat Olorode, Halimo Adeyemi, Ayisat Ajibabi, and Mistura Hammed (all students of the Technical College), as well as Odunayo Akingbade.

Mistura’s sister, Temitope had said on Sunday that the 20-year-old was due for her Industrial Training in March. The deceased had been home a little over a week ago for a wedding ceremony and had promised to reunite with her family again soon.

The occupants of the car were allegedly drunk-driving and over speeding when they lost control of the car.
