Chimamanda Adichie squares off against American analyst over Donald Trump’s racist tendencies

Renowned Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Adichie’s calm demeanor in addressing people of colour’s concerns about newly elected United States President, Donald Trump, made for an interesting viewing.

Chimamanda recently appeared as a guest on BBC’s Newsnight to discuss Trump’s racist tendencies and she almost left editor-in-chief of the American Spectator, R Emmett Tyrrell embarrassed.

Cool as you like, spiced with intermittent smug, the respected writer brushed off Tyrrell’s faint defence of Trump.

“The only way we can judge the kind of President he would be is based on the campaign that he ran … That’s the problem because on one hand we’re told that Trump’s appeal is that he says what he thinks and he says it like it is and that sort of thing. And then on the other hand, we’re told that somehow, he doesn’t really mean it. So which is it, there’s something very troubling about that,” Chimamanda objectively queried.

There are nagging concerns about what becomes the fate of ‘outsiders’ in America when Trump finally takes the reign as President in January 2017.
