MTN Nigeria, the leading telecommunications firm in the country, has wished the Super Eagles of Nigeria victory ahead of their match with Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, in a goodwill message, said they are solidly behind the team.

“I am sure I speak for all Nigerians and fans of Nigerian football everywhere when I say we are actively rooting for you, and confident that you will not only emerge victorious over the South African team tomorrow, but you will also bring the AFCON cup back home again,” he said.

The telecommunications giant, which is the official and exclusive communications partner of the Nigerian Football Federation, has been a supporter of Nigerian football for over a decade, having invested billions in the development of football in the country.

The Super Eagles secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 win over Angola. The team, who are yet to lose a match in the tournament, are set to face South Africa on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in what is expected to be a thrilling encounter.

Having faced each other 14 times, their last AFCON encounter was in 2019 where the Eagles defeated the Bafana Bafana two goals to one, in what was one of the most dramatic displays of the tournament. In that encounter, a first-half goal by Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze was equalised by Bongani Zungu with 20 minutes to play. However, William Troost-Ekong netted a last-minute winner that knocked South Africans out of the tournament.

Although South Africa has surprised many, having defeated powerful teams like Morocco and Cape Verde to reach the semi-finals, MTN Nigeria is impressed with the performance and resilience the Super Eagles have shown so far.

“We want the Eagles to know as they go out to play at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake tomorrow, that MTN is delighted with their performance so far, thrilled about the game we know they’ll play tomorrow, and confident that they will make all Nigerians proud,” Toriola said.
