17-year-old boy assisting mother with sales drowns in pool at Police College

A 17-year-old boy, Ifeanyi Onyekwere, had only decided to treat himself to a warm bath in the swimming pool at Police College, Ikeja, on Tuesday, but never made it out alive.

Ifeanyi, who prior to his tragic death had been assisting his mother in her shop, was said to have drowned in the water.

His distraught mother said she only received news that he had been rushed to the hospital by the police.

She wouldn’t be allowed to see his remains after she arrived at Police College.

“So, I went to the police college, but they refused to show me his body. After crying and pleading, they said they had taken him out of the place. I never knew he went swimming we were together at the market before he left me. I did not see him going with anybody,” she is quoted as saying.
