Young man sentenced to death for raping, killing polytechnic student lover in Ondo
The court has pronounced a death sentence on Chukwudi Onweniwe for killing his girlfriend, a HND student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo State, about two years ago.
Chukwudi was said to have lured his victim, Nifemi Adeyeye, to a farm where he raped and strangled her to death.
Nifemi, reports say, had been a good friend of Chukwudi’s family, at times following his father, Nwosu Onweniwe, to his farm and washing the men’s clothes.
What led to the ugly incident was unknown as the deceased had told her mother she was visiting a friend on the day of the incident. Nifemi’s mother said she was unaware of her daughter’s affair with the convict.
Two motorcyclists who claimed to have transported Chukwudi and Nifemi to the place of the incident testified in court.
The Akure High Court judge also stated that Chukwudi, according to the testimony of one Ayoola Famoriyo, had confessed to the crime and had taken operatives to where he hid Nifemi’s corpse.
A stone with which he reportedly crushed the deceased’s skull was also found at the spot and admitted as exhibit.
Chukwudi was sentenced to death by hanging on Monday.
