Yomi Shogunle gloats over DPO killing protester during fuel subsidy protest in Lagos
Head of Police Complaints Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Shogunle has gloated over the killing of a protester by a DPO during the Occupy Nigeria fuel subsidy protest in 2012.
The highly controversial policeman, while attempting to disregard a Twitter user who expressed concern about his (Yomi’s) service to the people, listed being a DPO in Ibadan, while a colleague allegedly killed a protester in Lagos, as part of his achievements.
Nigerians had, in 2012 while Goodluck Jonathan was president, taken to the streets in protest against fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.
A young man, Ademola Aderinde, was shot and killed on January 9, 2012 by an unnamed DPO, during the protest, and reports at the time said the Lagos State Police Commissioner had ordered the arrest and possible prosecution of the officer.
It is not clear if Shogunle, now an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was making reference to this particular incident.
