Woman flogs husband’s nephew to death over false allegation of theft

Joy Egeonu, a 47-year-old housewife is currently cooling off her heels in police custody after she was arrested by operatives from the Ogun state Police Command for flogging her husband’s nephew to death over allegation of theft.

The incident which happened on February 4, at Ope-Ilu in Agbado area of Ogun state was reported to the police by the deceased’s mother, Ijeoma Egeonu who took the case to the Agbado Divisional Police Headquarters.

It was gathered that the suspect had accused 11-year-old Chibuike Egeonu of stealing her N6,500, which he denied, but Joy believed that the boy was lieing and started flogging him until he gave up the ghost.

Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi explained in a statement that after killing the boy, the suspect confessed to have taken his corpse to Ifo, where she hurriedly buried him.

“She further stated that the boy gave up the ghost while she was taking him to the hospital and that it was later discovered that the missing money was taken by her husband and not the deceased as initially suspected,” DSP Oyeyemi said.

Police report indicates that her husband assisted her in burying the boy and the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered for immediate arrest of the man for helping is wife cover up the crime.

CP Iliyasu also directed that the case should be moved to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
