Why Tinubu Should Re-introduce Himself to Nigerians – Peter Obi

Peter Obi

On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu to spare Nigeria from the “international embarrassment of an identity crisis” by reintroducing himself to the Nigerian people and the world.

This appeal comes less than a week after Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called on Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to join the fight to ensure that justice takes place regarding discrepancies in Tinubu’s certificates.

Speaking at the press conference held in Abuja earlier today, Peter Obi made a compelling plea for Tinubu to dispel any lingering uncertainties by providing a comprehensive account of his personal history, educational journey, and other pertinent details.

“I respectfully call on Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reintroduce himself to the nation he governs and to the world to avoid further doubt,” Obi said.

He continued, “He should let the world know his name, nationality, place of birth, parentage, primary and secondary schools attended with dates, universities attended, and certificates obtained. He should indicate clearly where and when he did his NYSC. In addition, if at any time he had a change of name, he should state so clearly.”

Through legal proceedings initiated by Atiku Abubakar against Chicago State University, Atiku and his legal team unveiled discrepancies between the certificate Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the one reportedly obtained from Chicago State University (CSU).

Some of the discrepancies include gender specification and the claim that he graduated from Government College, Lagos, in the year 1970, whereas the school was not established until 1974.

There are concerns that Tinubu’s certificate saga can tarnish the already dwindling image Nigeria has in the international community.

Dr. Robert Ekat, a political analyst, told Neusroom that “even though it has not been outrightly proven that President Bola Tinubu forged his certificate from CSU, the insinuations that he might have actually committed the act of forgery exacerbate the already negative perception of Nigeria.”

“This is a significant embarrassment for Nigerians at home and abroad and casts a dark shadow that may affect foreign investments in the country,” he said.
