Why corporate firms, banks, markets will operate for 6 hours daily from Monday – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said business activities in the nation’s commercial center will only be allowed to run for six hours daily when the lockdown is relaxed on Monday May 4, 2020.

Lagos was placed on a lockdown by President Muhammadu Buhari a month ago following the rise in the cases of COVID-19 in the country. The move was adopted to reduce spread and help health workers trace contacts who may have been exposed to those already infected.

31 days after staying indoor, business activities will resume in Lagos from Monday, but the state governor has given guidelines on how they should operate. He said corporate organisations and markets will operate under an enforced framework called “Controlled Easing Phase”.

Sanwo-Olu in his state broadcast on Wednesday evening said “corporate organisations, banks, malls and local markets are allowed to reopen within the hours of 9am to 3pm under an enforced framework called “Controlled Easing Phase” and to operate at a capacity of 60% of their staff on the premises and 40% working from home.”

He added that eateries and restaurants will be open between 9am and 3pm but only for take-out and delivery services. In-dining services are not allowed.

“All food handlers and staff must go through exhaustive health checks, temperature checks and a high level of hygiene must be maintained,” he added.

“Markets and stores will be allowed to operate from 9am to 3pm on selected days which will be communicated. Occupancy of malls must be 60% of original capacity and social distancing must be observed. Wash basins and hand sanitisers must also be provided.”
