The belated screening of ministerial nominee Rotimi Amaechi has finally taken place.

The Senate ethics committee is investigating the former Rivers State governor on allegations of corruption and fraud.

But Senate President Bukola Saraki said that was not why Amaechi was not screened earlier.

During the screening, Thursday, Senate majority leader and former Akwa-Ibom governor Godswill Akpabio said his colleagues from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not ask any question from Amaechi because the ethics committee was yet to report its findings.

The comment caused some raucous with obviously pro-Amaechi senators saying the former governor could “just bow and go then.”

They started chanting “Bow and go! Bow and go! Bow and go!”

They were called to order and the screening eventually took place.

During his appearance before the Senate , a senator asked Amaechi to define corruption.

Listen to what he said.

Amaechi said corruption involves all manner of vices including collecting bribes in the form of sexual pleasure, as well as pushing unqualified members of your family into positions of authority.

Recall Amaechi helped President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC) topple Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP.

Buhari rode to power on the promise of ending corruption in Nigeria.

There are speculations Buhari would name Amaechi the Minister of the Niger Delta – the former governor’s home region.

Do you agree with Rotimi Amaechi's definition of corruption?

Yes, he's right.

No, he's talking rubbish.

I don't care.
