Visionscape plans to quit Lagos amid stinking situation

The private waste management company, Visionscape which was contracted by the governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode to manage waste collection and disposal in the state is giving signs of folding up.

Visionscape was the beneficiary of the newly enacted Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law in March, 2017 which conferred the firm with the responsibility of taking over environmental management from already established LAWMA.

The controversial move made Visionscape unpopular among stakeholders and residents of the state; which some people believe is one of the reasons why Ambode lost favour with the leadership of his party.

Amid the lack of support from stakeholders, Visionscape has been struggling to perform effectively. This ordeal has led to the closure of some of its key collection points, and invariably give the notion that the company is planning to quit the city.

The company which signed a 10-year contract with the Lagos state government has only operated for two years, and it’s obvious that the contract will be canceled once a new government comes into office after the 2019 general elections.

Perhaps Visionscape sees the handwriting on the wall and is planning ahead of time.
