Iran fires fresh ballistic missile attacks on Israel
Iran has launched a new wave of ballistic missile attacks on Israel, intensifying hostilities following recent coordinated strikes by Israel and the United States on Iranian territory.
At least nine people were reportedly killed, 27 others injured, and 11 remain missing after an Iranian missile struck the city of Beit Shemesh, located west of Jerusalem. Local authorities said the strike caused extensive destruction, including the collapse of a residential building.
In a statement posted on X, the Israel Defense Forces accused Tehran of deliberately targeting civilian areas, claiming the missile destroyed an entire building and resulted in the deaths of non-combatants.
The latest barrage marks a significant escalation in the protracted conflict. It follows joint US-Israeli air operations carried out on Saturday against military and strategic sites inside Iran. According to reports, the strikes killed several senior Iranian officials, including the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The IDF said air-raid sirens sounded across central and southern Israel as missiles were detected inbound, prompting the activation of air defence systems to intercept the projectiles.
Iranian authorities described the missile launches as a retaliatory response to what they called “aggression” by Washington and Tel Aviv. Officials in Tehran said the earlier air campaign targeted critical military infrastructure and strategic facilities within Iran.
The scope of the confrontation appears to be widening. Iranian strikes have reportedly also targeted locations in Gulf Arab states and US military bases across the region, raising concerns of a broader regional conflict.
