“VIO ban is permanent, FRSC should vacate state roads” – Ambode

Contrary to earlier claims by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde that Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode only ordered Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) off the roads temporarily, the governor has confirmed the decision is permanent.

Ambode said on Tuesday that the vehicle inspecting agencies contribute to the traffic challenges on Lagos roads.

Ambode also implored the Federal Road Safety Commission to limit its activities to Federal roads.

He said his government would put a plan in place to track and monitor vehicle registration and MOT certifications.

“The Vehicle Inspection Officers have been asked to stay off our roads permanently. We also advice the Federal Road Safety Corps to stay on the fringes and highways and not on the main streets of Lagos,” Ambode said during the inauguration of the pedestrian bridge at Berger bus stop.

“It has become evident that these agencies contribute to the traffic challenges on our roads. We will employ technology to track and monitor vehicle registration and MOT certifications.”
