US embassy bans desperate Nigerian man for life over false documents

A man desperate to leave the shores of Nigeria may now never see his dream come to pass as he has been banned for life by the American embassy.

46-year-old Julius Olawale Oluwagbenro has been unlucky on his fourth attempt to convince the US embassy to hand him a visa.

The school cert holder was caught to have fabricated his UNILAG Electrical Electronics certificate as well as other documents.

Oluwagbenro, in his presentation at the embassy, also claimed to have once worked with Procter and Gamble.

He claimed his reason for applying for visa was to attend the burial of his uncle, who died of cancer in New York.

To further convince the consular he was not running away, Oluwagbenro claimed to be a staff of Unilever, with a monthly pay of N657,000.

He was found in possession of a police letterhead, stating that he had a damaged passport and that the Embassy should, “kindly render any assistance he may require”.

His bank statement showed that he had N6.2 million in his account.

What blew his cover with the consular, however, was a false phone number of the person he was supposed to meet in America.

The Embassy discovered that the phone number of the contact person had been used for over 190 applicants. While Oluwagbenro’s documents showed that the contact person lives in Brooklyn, New York, the owner of the number lives in Chicago.

Oluwagbenro claimed his agent filled the visa form on his behalf.

“I was not even aware of most of the information he filled on the form. I sell cars in Ibadan,” he said.
