There have been protests against the Paul Biya-led government by separatists demanding the secession of the two English-speaking regions in the French-speaking country.
The separatists had imposed curfews and closed down schools, amid heavy crackdown by security forces.
A military source in the country confirmed to Reuters that “in total 81 people were kidnapped including the [school] principal. They were taken to the bush.”
No one has claimed responsibility for the students’ abduction.
