Two armed robbers shot dead after waylaying Port Harcourt-bound travellers
Travellers from Lagos to Port Harcourt were made to experience a traumatic journey when armed robbers waylaid their bus along Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin Expressway Wednesday midnight.
Three robbers, according to reports, crossed a white 34-seater passenger bus belonging to Chisco Investment which had departed the Jibowu, Yaba terminal in Lagos around 1am Thursday.
They dragged the driver off and drove the bus into a nearby bush, before stripping the travellers of their personal belongings.
Police, however, arrived at the scene following a tip off. They ran after the robbers and shot two of them dead while the third escaped with bullet wounds.
The police recovered three pump action rifles, two locally made pistols, a machete and a sum of N166,000 from the robbers.
One of the travellers said, “As soon as they stopped us, one of the robbers immediately took over the bus after pushing the driver off and then drove the bus into the bush, where they took all our valuables.”
The travellers recovered their items at the Ogebere-Ijebu Divisional headquarters, Ijebu East Local Government Area in Ogun State.
