Taiwan earthquake: Rescuers find bodies of couple hugging each other
Rescuers came across the corpse of the couple in each other’s arms as they continue to search for life at a high-rise apartment complex in southern Taiwan.
The 17-storey apartment toppled following an earthquake on February 6.
The rescuers found the man wrapping his arms around the woman, hoping to protect her from falling debris as the roof collapsed. The man had hugged his girlfriend so tightly that it took enormous efforts for rescuers to separate the two bodies, CCTVNews reported.
The couple, both college students, have been identified as Cai Meng and Huang Ruoxin.
According to Taiwan authorities the death toll from the collapsed building has risen to 62 while 62 people missing.
The missing people are presumed to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
Rescuers say the chances of finding more survivors are now slim..
