10-day-old girl, at least four others die in Taiwan earthquake
At least five persons, including a ten-day-old baby, were killed after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan early Saturday morning.
The disaster struck around 4:00am bringing down a 17-storey apartment building and several other buildings in the city of Tainan.
Five other buildings were left tilting at alarming angles, a government emergency centre is quoted to have said.
The 10-day-old girl’s body was pulled from the rubbles of the aparment where, according to a fire department official, recues efforts are focused.
As at last count, a total of 378 persons have been taken to hospital with different degrees of injuries, 230 persons have been rescued from the rubble while up to 30 others are still believed to be trapped.
Rescue operations are still ongoing..
