New Year Eve Tragedy: Suicide bomber strikes in Maiduguri, many feared dead
As billions of people prepared to celebrate the start of a new year around the world, residents near the Nigerian Customs Service office in Maiduguri were victims of a suicide bombing attack.
Many are reportedly feared dead in the attack which occurred on New Year eve, according to a resident.
Police spokesman in the state, Victor Isuku however said only the suicide bomber died in the attack.
“Information reaching me now is that there was an explosion at custom area,” Isuku told Punch.
“Preliminary details available is that only the suicide bomber affected. Now on standby for details soonest.”
A resident of the area, Abba Mustapha told the publication that the bomb blast was at a tea drinking joint at customs area near the Nigerian Customs Service office.
Mustapha reportedly said that many persons were killed in the explosion.
