Siasia, Dream Team stranded in Ghana after escaping plane crash
An official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says coach Samson Siasia and his Under-23 team are stranded in Ghana after narrowly escaping a plane crash.
The plane conveying the team to the Gambia had to land impromptu in Accra after it developed technical fault, reports say.
The team is heading to the Gambia as part of preparations for the African Under-23 Championship to be hosted by Senegal.
The Dream Team VI would have camped in Morocco, as Siasia initially requested, but for visa issues.
The Gambia trip almost turned deadly after the plane conveying the Nigerian team reportedly developed technical fault, Sunday morning.
“Thank God for his goodness and his mercies that we escaped a plane crash on our way to Gambia,” reports quote an unnamed “senior” official who is said to be traveling with the team.
“The pilot had to make an emergency landing in Accra and we are still in Accra.
“We are still stranded here and we are yet to get any news from Arik officials,” the official said.
Reports say the NFF is expected to make new arrangements so the team can get to the Gambia.
