Residents panic as strange virus kills two in Edo communities
A strange virus has struck fear in residents in Igieduma, Ehor and surrounding communities in Uhunmwode LGA of Edo State after killing at least two persons.
A 70-year-old man was said to have died after being struck with the unknown virus days ago.
The symptoms that reportedly characterise the virus are nose bleeding, stomach ache, high fever, vomiting etc. Residents fear the symptoms bear worrying resemblance to the deadly Ebola.
A pharmacist told Neusroom on Wednesday that there are growing agitations that the deadly disease could begin to spread.
Edo State Commissioner for Health, David Osifo, has however, downplayed the agitation as he said tests showed the virus could be yellow fever.
“You are correct. We suspect yellow fever, two have been confirmed as yellow fever and negative for Lassa,” he said in a message to PM News.
“My team of experts are right there now to contain it. Nothing to panic the public about please.”
