Uromi Killings: Two Principal Suspects Nabbed by DSS, 14 Moved to Force HQ
Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrested two principal suspects linked to the brutal killing of 16 Nigerians of northern extraction in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, last week.
The arrests, confirmed by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, followed credible intelligence that led DSS operatives to apprehend the suspects in Uromi.
The incident, which ignited widespread outrage, unfolded when a mob lynched the victims—suspected hunters from Kano State in Nigeria’s northern region—traveling from Rivers State to Uromi in Edo State, after vigilantes stopped their truck and claimed to have discovered locally made guns, fueling fears of a kidnapping plot.
In a statement, Itua said, “Operatives of the Department of State Security have arrested two principal suspects involved in the killing of 16 Nigerians of northern extraction in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government last week.
“Operatives of various security agencies are hunting for other key suspects involved in the unfortunate incidents.”
Neusroom gathered that 14 suspects previously arrested in connection with the killings have been transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja, where the investigation continues. Authorities have vowed to ensure justice as security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend all involved in the mob violence.
