Police identify SARS officer who threatened to “waste” victims’ lives in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has identified a SARS official who allegedly extorted a lady of N5,000 in Ikorodu on Wednesday.

The victim, Ife, said that she was on her way to a shoot in company of others when the officer and his colleagues accosted them and threatened to waste their lives.

“Armed members of SARS pulled us over and made us pay for no reason,” she said in her tweet which has since gone viral.

Ife said she was, however, smart enough to make an electronic cash transfer to the officer “so they can be traced”. Ife also shared a screenshot of the transaction.

Evidence of transaction between Ife and Inspector Omotosho

Police spokesperson, ACP Abayomi Shogunle promptly notified the force’s complaint unit to investigate her claims.

Shogunle said Thursday afternoon that the officer has been identified as Inspector Charles Omotosho, attached to FSARS Ikorodu.

He added that Inspector Omotosho was already in custody and preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Nigerian citizens complain of SARS officials’ harassment daily and continue to seek a reform of the unit.
