Travelers along the 8-lane Lagos-Benin expressway are stranded as protesting students of the University of Benin barricaded the highway, Tuesday.
The UNIBEN students blocked the busy road in protest after two of their colleagues were knocked down by an Army patrol vehicle, reports say.
Reports say the two students are dead.
President of UNIBEN’s Student Union Government (SUG), Comrade Omorogbe, said normalcy will not return until there are assurances on the construction of a pedestrian bridge across that section of the road.
The students are also demanding speed breakers be installed on the road.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Francis Osagiede, said the demands will be addressed.
The aggrieved students said they will stage another protest if compensation is not paid to the families of the victims in seven days.
They are also demanding for the construction of a fly-over at the university gate within a year.
