Osun PDP Supports Tinubu’s Re-election Bid, Rallies Behind Adeleke for Second Term

The Osun State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, but called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to remain in the party ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.

This decision was made public in a communiqué issued after a strategic meeting at the Government House in Osogbo on Monday. The caucus also reaffirmed its support for Adeleke to seek a second term, citing wide consultations with traditional rulers, civil servants, retirees, religious leaders, market unions, party members, and residents across the state.

The endorsement of Tinubu by a PDP bloc marks a rare political alignment, even as the caucus dismissed reports of Adeleke’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“That the majority of the members of the APC in Osun State are opposed to the idea of the defection of Governor Adeleke to the APC, which did not originate from the governor in the first instance,” the communiqué reads.

It added: “Some APC leaders, based on entrenched interests, have demonstrated hostility and resentment towards Governor Ademola Adeleke. Some went on social media and national television to call Governor Adeleke all kinds of unprintable names.”

Despite this, the PDP leaders emphasised unwavering support for Adeleke’s leadership. “The majority of PDP members in Osun State are not happy about the idea of the defection of Governor Adeleke to the APC, but only reluctantly agreed to follow Governor Adeleke wherever he goes to show their love, support, and loyalty to his leadership.”

The communiqué was signed by Adeleke and several key PDP figures including Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Kola Adewusi, Bamidele Salam, and Soji Adetunji, among others.
