Founding PDP Member Adamu Waziri Resigns, Joins ADC

Adam Ru Waziri, a former Minister of Police Affairs and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned from the party, citing concerns over its current leadership and direction.

Waziri announced his resignation on Monday at the Dogo Tebo ward in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State. Until his defection, he was a member of the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT).

Explaining the reason for his departure, Waziri said, “The exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation” compelled him to leave the party.

“For record purposes. Let it be known that the current leadership and tone of the party are inconsistent with the leadership of a major party that should offer an alternative platform to its members to exercise their inalienable right and freedom of choice in any electoral contest,” he added.

Waziri’s exit comes amid a wave of high-profile defections from the PDP, with many opposition figures now aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He confirmed his immediate defection to the ADC.

Just last week, prominent opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, formally adopted the ADC as a coalition platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Waziri’s move further signals growing discontent within the PDP and an intensifying opposition effort to mount a united front against the APC.
