Ogun: Man, 26, allegedly strangles wife during scuffle, throws body out the window

Ogun State Police Command has arrested Mathew Oguntade, a 26-year-old man who allegedly killed his 20-year-old wife, Mary Oguntade.

Oguntade was said to have committed the crime in their home behind the Anglican Church at Owode-Ijako, in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

He allegedly strangled Mary during a fight around midnight on Friday, before throwing her body outside the window.

The Community Development Association Chairman of the community, Iskilu Kareem promptly reported the case at the police station after being notified of the couple’s fight by a local vigilante group.

Before Kareem got to the scene of the incident, the suspect had committed the act and fled.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the police launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect after the victim’s corpse was moved to the General Hospital, Ifo mortuary.

Oguntade was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu urged citizens to raise alarm when couples “are engaging in fisticuffs in order to avert this type of ugly incidence.”
