Nigerians mourn as Pastor Taiwo Odukoya passes on 21 months after wife’s death
Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, the Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, is dead.
According to a statement posted on the church’s Facebook page on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Odukoya died in the United States on Monday, August 7, 2023.
“The fountain of Life Church Family, in tatal submission to the will of God Almighty announces the passing unto greater glory of our Father, Teacher, a great servant of the Most High God, Pastor Daniel Taiwo Odukoya, Founding Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, who passed unto glory on the 7th of August 2023 in the USA,” the statement read.
The statement did not mention the cause of his death which came 21 months after the passing of his second wife Nomthi Odukoya who lost the battle to cancer in November 2021.
Odukoya was trained as a petroleum engineer at the University of Ibadan and worked with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for 12 years before resigning to go into full time ministry.
He was first married to Pastor Bimbo Odukoya who gained national fame for her teachings on marriage. Bimbo died in Sosoliso plane crash in December 2005.
Five years after Bimbo’s death, he married Nomthi from South Africa and their union produced two children.
Since the announcement of his death, some prominent Nigerian pastors have taken to social media to mourn his death.
Pastor Bolaji Idowu of the Harvesters described Odukoya’s death as the passing of a general. “Good night pastor sir! You fought and ran well! Rest in peace sir. A General is gone,” he wrote on social media.
