Mothers In Niger State Celebrate As MTN Foundation Refurbishes Ward In Lapai

With the compelling mandate that every Nigerian deserves the right to good health care and access to medical facilities, MTN Foundation refurbished and furnished the maternity ward at the General Hospital, Lapai, Niger State recently. Tens of joyous expectant mothers came out in their numbers, singing praises outside the ward as the official handover took place.

The enhancement featured a wide range of medical equipment and supplies. Taking into cognisance the peculiarities of conditions of the location, brand new equipment were donated while others had been refurbished to operate better and faster. All were geared towards improving the quality of medical attention rendered to the residents of the Lapai community and its environs.

Expressing what felt like a new dawn in Lapai; Head midwife, General Hospital, Lapai, Mrs Amina Hassan while receiving the donation in the presence of the staff, stated that the hospital’s focus stood unwavering, “Our core mission as a maternity ward is to provide health, safety and shelter for newborns and mothers. We appreciate the donation, which will assist us greatly in accommodating our patients and meeting their domestic needs while they are in our care.”

The modern facility and upgraded equipment were handed over by the director of  MTN Foundation, Dennis Okoro. he explained that the Foundation’s efforts were necessary to ensure that the nation’s young population and its mothers are not lost to the depleting standard in Nigerian health care: “MTN Nigeria will continue to supplement the efforts of the government in the health sector. It is imperative that we understand that the improvement of this sector is not only to be shouldered by our leaders but by every individual, organization or association with the means necessary to ensure that our mothers and their wards are not another number in the statistics.”
