Mother hushes 14-year-old daughter allegedly raped by her father in Lagos
When a teenage girl reported to her mother that her father had forcefully had sexual intercourse with her, the woman doubted the claim.
In fact, the mother threatened the victim to never mention such in the public.
It wasn’t until she ran away from home that help came her way.
The girl told the police how her 58-year-old father, Johnson Okon, raped her while the mother was away.
“It was in our house at Charismatic Road, Berger, Ikorodu that my father raped me. My mother was not around when the incident happened so when she came I confided in her so that she can take action,” she said.
“But to my greatest dismay, my mother blamed me, scolded me and warned me seriously not to mention anything like that to anyone. .
“I really don’t know if she didn’t believe me or she was trying to protect my father. So I had to run away from the house, to where I felt safe.”
Police showed the suspect to newsmen on Tuesday, stating that investigation into the allegation against Okon, a security guard and commercial motorcycle operator, was still ongoing.
“The girl has been referred to Mirabel Centre for medical examination,” Lagos police boss Imohimi Edgal said.
