Man kills stepdaughter for taking sugarcane without permission

12-year-old Chimwemwe Mawala had gone to the family garden to cut a sugarcane which didn’t go down well with her stepfather.

A police spokesperson in Victoria Mwanza, said the stepfather, identified as Mackson Makoka, severly beat the girl up for “cutting down the sugarcane for consumption without his authority”.

Mawala was severely injured as a result of the beating and was taken to a health centre where received treatment as an out patient.

Her condition however worsened the following day and she died on arrival at the hospital.

According to police, postmortem showed that she died of a fractured skull.

Makoka is being kept in police custody as he gets ready to face murder charges..
