Man, 30, “stabs wife, 29, after slapping him for not leaving enough money for upkeep”
Police in Kogi have nabbed a man, identified as Abdullahi Garba, for allegedly stabbing his wife to death.
Garba was said to have engaged in an argument with his 29-year-old wife, Falilat Saka, over money for housekeeping.
The couple had been married for 15 years with a male child, aged six.
Garba told newsmen on Wednesday that Falilat slapped him over his inability to give her a sum she demanded. He said the deceased was fond of complaining anytime he gave her money to buy food in the house.
He said, “On the particular day, she requested for N4,000 but I only managed to give her N 2,000 which did not go down well with her.
“We quarreled over the money. We were eating and she demanded for money. I had N2,000, minus the N500 we used to eat that night.
“She had never raised her hand against me before, but that day, she got up and slapped me. She demanded N4,000 but I did not have up to that amount.
“This led to arguments and in the process, I stabbed her and she died from the injury sustained in her neck region.
“My wife had been advising me to go into robbery because my work brings in pittance, but I always urged her to be patient,” he added.
The Kogi state deputy commissioner of police Yahaya Abubakar, who paraded Garba and other suspects, said that the suspect will be arraigned as soon as the result of the post-mortem examination is received.
