JAMB bans cybercafes as it begins sale of registration forms January 10

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB has announced that it will begin selling registration forms for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) on January 10, 2019.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede made this known at a meeting conducted by JAMB and proprietors of Computer Based Test centres at the University of Lagos on Thursday.

Prof. Oloyede disclosed that only accredited CBT centres will be eligible to carry out the registration. He clarified that going forward, cybercafes are prohibited from conducting the exercise in order to avoid extortion, errors and examination malpractice.

“Cybercafés overcharge pupils and mix up data which makes pupils suffer. They also do services they don’t have the capacity to do,” he said.

“From now on, all essential services — creation of candidate profile, uploading WAEC and NECO results, collating biometric details, would be done at CBT centres. To reduce the incidence of data mix up, prospective candidates will verify their data by fingerprint before it is submitted and printed out.”

The registrar said that the sale of the UTME form would last for six weeks across 718 accredited CBT centres. He further charged the CBT centres to deliver excellent services and avoid any practices that will implicate them.

JAMB had initially announced that the cost of UTME registration will be reduced from N5,000 to N3,500.
