Imo: Woman attempts to separate husband and sister-in-law fight, sets 3-year-old son ablaze

A woman, identified as Chinonso Azubuike, in a desperate bid to separate her husband and sister-in-law from exchanging blows, set her 3-year-old son and another seven-year-old on fire.

The incident reportedly occurred at Eke-Obollo, in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State on Friday.

On the fateful day, Chinonso had allegedly doused her husband, Oliver and her sister-in-law, Adanna Onyeka with a gallon of petrol because they were fighting and she wanted to stop them.

No sooner had she poured the fuel on the fighters than the entire house was engulfed by fire, sources revealed to Punch.

The fire caught on from a neighbour’s kitchen where cooking was going on, the sources said.

Chinonso’s son, Chimaobi Azubuike and the 7-year-old Chidalu Onyeka were burnt to death in the fire.

“All the efforts made by villagers to put out the fire in order to save the children proved abortive as they died before help could reach them,” a source said.

Chinonso also suffered some degree of burns and was reportedly admitted in a public hospital in Owerri.

The fighters she aimed to separate were also badly burnt.

“The policemen, who came on a rescue mission, took the woman and others to a hospital for the injuries they sustained as a result of the fire,” a source, Collins Osuji, said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said an investigation into what transpired had commenced.
