“I’m not desperate to become President” – Atiku
Presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar, after contesting to become Nigeria’s president over three times, has said he isn’t desperate to lead the country.
The former Vice President who had earlier pledged to run for a single term if elected, said on Tuesday in Benin that he still has the required experience to guide Nigeria right.
“What do you expect my critics to say. I can run as many times as I want. I am fit and qualified and I still have ideas to put this country on the right path. What is wrong in trying again and again,” he told newsmen.
“I am not desperate to become President. If I were desperate, I would have taken the presidency in 2003. If I were desperate, I would not have stepped down for Abiola. I have the interest of this country.”
Atiku, known for switching parties frequently, said he would remain with PDP even if he loses out on the party’s sole presidential ticket.
He had paid a courtesy visit to Oba of Benin, Ewuare II in Edo State on Tuesday.
