Grandmother in custody for “kidnapping” own granddaughter

The Pomona Police Department is currently holding one Teresa Arias, 63, for allegedly kidnapping a 7-year-old girl who is also her granddaughter.

Arias was found, Wednesday, with Jasmine Felix just hours after the police launched a search for the girl.

Jasmine’s parents had, earlier in the day, left her alone with her grandmother at their home in Highland while they went to work, police say.

The girl’s parents returned to an empty home. They then received a call from Arias who admitted to taking Jasmine. She also allegedly said she “was never going to bring her back”.

The police were able to arrest her after a local restaurant owner who had seen one of the fliers Jasmine’s parents had distributed recognised the girl and her grandmother..
