Girl, 16, sentenced to death for stabbing husband who raped her
A teenage Sudanese girl, Noura Hussein has been sentenced to death for killing her husband who attempted to rape her.
A Sharia court, which follows Islamic religious law, found Hussein guilty of premeditated murder.
Acting in self-defense, Hussein stabbed her husband to death as he attempted to rape her a second time.
Revealing how she got into marriage, the teenage girl said her father compelled her to marry her cousin.
Hussein explained that her father made her contractually marry her cousin when she was 16, but she refused to accept the union and sought refuge with a relative for three years.
In April, Hussein had returned to her family home after her father said the marriage was cancelled. It later dawned on Hussein that her father had tricked her and preparations for her wedding ceremony were under way.
On her wedding day, Hussein said she refused to have sex with her husband, but on the sixth day, he raped her as three of his male relatives held her down to restrain her.
