How flood took over Abuja-Lokoja highway, left motorists stranded
Travellers commuting on the Abuja-Lokoja highway were left stranded after the road became flooded, making it difficult for them to continue with their journey.
The flooded area was the Nataco Junction at Seriki Numan Village, which is about one kilometre to Lokoja.
According to our findings, people were stranded around Okumi Village while those going towards the north stopped at the Nataco Junction.
The flood was as a result of heavy rainfall that lasted for about three hours in Lokoja and its environs on Thursday morning coupled with a run-off from the mountains which led to the flooding.
This added to the water level of the River Niger which runs parallel with the road at that point.
The raised level of the river led to a spillover of the riverbanks, raising fears of the flood disaster that happened in 2012 which ravaged nine local government areas in the region.
