EFCC recovers N1.7bn from criminals, secures 33 convictions in 2018
The EFCC has recorded a successful year in the prosecution of criminals across the country, the commission’s Zonal Head in Port Harcourt, Nnaghe Obono Itam said Thursday.
Itam said no lesser than thirty-three convictions have been recorded so far in 2018.
He also said a total sum of N1,674,891,899 has been recovered so far, while another $552,368 and 5,225 Euros were recovered at different times.
One of the anti-graft commission’s high points of the year was the conviction of former Plateau State governor Joshua Dariye.
Dariye was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for diversion of N1.161 billion while he was in office.
The anti-graft commission has recently intensified its clampdown on internet fraudsters a.k.a ‘Yahoo Boys’ in the country.
There have, however, been criticisms that it has continuously shown bias in picking on individuals who are not in the good books of President Buhari.
