Edo police arrest 4 as cultists shoot AAU final year medical student dead

A final year medical student of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma was gunned down on Tuesday evening by suspected cultists during a graduation party organised by students of the school.

The student, Chinedum Onyekwelu Anakor also known as Dr Einstein, was reportedly a victim of a fight that broke out between two men at the party.

One of the warring parties reportedly left the scene claiming that his cloth was torn and he would make those at the scene pay for it.

The unidentified man was said to have returned with his gang armed with firearms.

They allegedly shot and killed Chinedum, while many others were injured.

Police say only one death has been confirmed while those who sustained injuries had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

About four suspects had been arrested in connection to the incident, according to Johnson Kokumo, the Edo State police commissioner.

“The people at war were members of different cult groups. The shooting was as a result of cult rivalry; that is the information reaching me,” Punch quotes Kokumo as saying.

“Arrests have been made. I think four or six people have been arrested with weapons recovered. I do not know whether all of them (victims) actually died.

“But the information, as of yesterday (Tuesday) was that five people were shot, one was confirmed dead and the remaining four were taken to a hospital.”
