A married couple who have waited 10 long years to have their first child have been blessed with 5 babies in Calabar, making history in the process.

A medical practitioner at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ekpo Edet’s joy knew no bounds as his wife was delivered of a set of quintuplets on Monday.

It was the first time in the history of Cross River that a woman would be delivered of five children at once.

Dr Edet has described the newborns – three girls and two boys who reportedly weighed between 1.45kg and 1.75kg – as “precious gifts from God.”

Channels TV reports that Edet, and his new family, was blessed with a N1million gift by wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr Linda Ayade who visited the first time parents.

“I want to thank God almighty. He is a faithful God. For the first time in the history of Cross River State, the first time in the history of UCTH, five at a go,” the excited father said.

“God has just been faithful, as we have concluded the first phase and the doctors have confirmed that the babies are kicking.

“We are entering into the second phase and I know it is not going to be easy but I solicit for support from all well-meaning Nigerians. All my friends and well-wishers in taking care of them in this recession.”

Dr. Ayade was said to have also extended kind gestures to the medical experts who ensured safe delivery of the babies by gifting them a sum of N500,000.

A donation of an incubator machine was also made to the hospital on behalf of Cross River State Government.
