"Speed kills," FRSC remind drivers.
“Night travelling may be safe in other countries, it definitely isn’t in Nigeria,” FRSC remind drivers.

Are you thinking of making that annual end of the year trip over the night? Please don’t, the Federal Road Safety Commission says.

The commission says the spate of road crash fatalities resulting from night-time travels is disturbing.

According to the FRSC, Nigeria possesses some characteristics which make it unsafe for motorists to travel at night.

In a press statement, Corps Public Education Officer, Corps Commander Imoh Etuk said the poor state of roads, inadequate rescue services, fatigue, inadequate road signs/makings and poor vehicle maintenance culture do not make night trips advisable.

In addition, Etuk said that changes in light intensity and the blur effect of night driving negatively affects the vision of drivers thereby increasing the probability of road crashes at night.

Expressing the FRSC’s concern over Nigerians’ penchant for night trips during the yuletide, the Corps Public Education Officer reiterated the Corps’ advise for the motoring public to desist from night travels.

While he was quick to add that the FRSC isn’t interested in taking away Nigerians’ right to move freely, “It is still instructive to advise the motoring public on the hazards associated with this practice”.

About 9 persons died, November 18, 2015, at Sango Ota, old toll gate end of the Lagos-Abeokuta express way when a truck loaded with cement lost its brakes and veered off its lane ramming into several other vehicles. It happened just after midnight, 12:10am to be precise..
